EXCLUSIVE: Sarah McInerney reveals she was ‘mortified’ after her golf-gate comment was accidentally aired

Sarah McInerney has revealed that she was “mortified” after her golf-gate comment was accidentally aired.

The presenter was signing off on a segment about the Oireachtas Golf Society, which has caused massive controversy in the past week after 80 people attended an event in Clifden – including high-profile public figures.

Following a lengthy discussion on the topic, Sarah unintentionally summed up how the nation were feeling about the subject matter – letting out an exasperated “Jaysus” which was caught on the microphone.

When asked by Goss.ie at RTÉ’s virtual Autumn launch how she felt upon discovering the comment had been aired, Sarah responded: “Mortified.”

The comment was made on Sarah’s last day presenting the Today Show on RTÉ Radio One: “I managed almost four months without a blip and then on my last day of course…”

“I just saw the red light on in the corner of my eye as soon as I said it and just slapped my hand to my head.”

“I looked up and saw the sound guy had his hand slapped to his head and we just looked at each other,” she laughed.

“I thought I had better apologise for that,” she added.

RTÉ adhered to all safety guidelines in relation to Covid 19 and used the two metre distance rule at all times. Photoshop and editing were used when putting these images together.
