EXCLUSIVE! Karen Koster opens up about life after The Six O’Clock Show

Karen Koster has opened up about life after the 6 o’clock show.

The presenter stepped back from the evening show in November last year.

The mother-of-three announced the news on Instagram and explained the reason behind her decision was “for the simple reason that I just need to be home more with my family in the evenings.”

Speaking to Goss.ie on the pink carpet at The Gossies 2024, Karen revealed what life after the 6 o’clock show has been like.

She told us: “I actually stepped back thinking it’ll be great I’ll have more time for the kids, but actually what’s been lovely… I’ve got more time for my husband and that kind of romance”

“I mean it’s only seeing movies or going for early dinners but I was never able to make time for that because I thought the kids were the priority.”

“Now that I’m around more for the kids, I’m around more for John as well so the novelty of being home in the evenings has been fantastic.”

Karen also opened up about what she misses about the show.

She added: “I was watching the 6 o’clock yesterday and they had Leo Varadkar the Taoiseach on, so I was like ‘Lads I bow down that was incredible.’

“I’m still watching and I’m still wishing it well and I think that Katja and Brian are absolutely smashing it.”

“I miss when they have a guest on that I was like ‘Ooh i never got to speak to them, I would’ve loved them,'” she explained.

“They had the cast of One Day on, the Netflix series… so that was one that I was like ‘I wish I was there,’ but that’s literally it.”

“It feels right in my heart and my gut.”

Karen explained why she has no current plans for the future: “I had no headspace to make any plans bar booking a holiday because when you’ve got kids and a day job that takes up that much of your time there’s no free space,”

“I’m not an ideas person, I literally need to be in a quiet room to think of something, I’m not a person who thinks of stuff while on the go- so no, I’m still in the early days of decompressing and taking it one day at a time.”
