EXCLUSIVE! Brian Ormond reveals he went for new RTE game show too – but lost out to Nicky Byrne

Brian Ormond has revealed he lost out on the chance to host RTE’s newest game show.

The TV presenter told Goss.ie that he was in the running for new Saturday night entertainment show The Million Euro Challenge – but lost out to 2FM host Nicky Byrne.

“I’m not actually (working with the Lottery) so we’ll see what happens. I’ll keep plugging away but I’m finished with the lottery,” he told Goss.ie.

“I was doing the National Lottery draws as well so I kind of said ‘right, it’s time to move on from that’.

“And then obviously I was waiting to hear who’s got the show and then they called and said that he got it,” he explained.

But the former Popstars singer said he was happy for Nicky, and said he’s glad RTE are finally making new formats.

“But best of luck, it’s great to see a new show. Any of the shows I’ve ever done have always been there for a while with The Big Money Game or Winning Streak.

“It’s crazy that he’s getting a crack at a new show. I’m sure it will be great though. I think it will be brilliant,” he said.

While he won’t be hosting the new Lottery game show, Brian revealed he is pitching entertainment show ideas to numerous broadcasters – including RTE, TV3 and UTV Ireland.

The TV host said he and wife Pippa O’Connor have been pitching ideas together.

“We’ve a few different ideas. There’s two I’m working on for January so I’ll see what happens. But for every 50 shows you pitch you’re lucky to get one in.

“I’ll keep plugging away and see what lands,” Brian explained.

“We’d love to do something together again. When we did The Big Money Show we actually really enjoyed it. We’re going to work on doing something together next year, but it won’t be reality or anything like that.

Speaking at the annual Ward Walk for Our Lady’s Hospital in Dublin, Brian said he doesn’t mind which station he works for.

“I was always freelance, I’m just at the stage now where I want to be working on shows. I don’t care where it is, once it’s something I want to do.

“We have one idea that’s like a game show but like family entertainment, we’re pitching so hopefully something buys,” he added.
