Eoghan McDermott praises Niall Horan: ‘I’m very proud of him’

Eoghan McDermott has praised his pal Niall Horan, and admitted that he’s “very proud of him”.

The 2FM star and the singer have been good friends for years, but now Eoghan is particularly proud of Niall’s charity work.

The presenter revealed that he went to support Niall’s Rest of the World team in the famous Soccer Aid charity match last week – and found himself surprised at how involved Niall was.

“I popped over to Old Trafford last weekend to support Rest of the World, which included our very own Nicky Byrne and Niall Horan,” he wrote in his column for the Irish Sun.

“They were taking on Team England in a match that mixed professional footballers and celebs, all to raise funds for Unicef.

“Unicef, which is dedicated to improving children’s welfare, is to my mind one of the most important charities in the world.

“All in it raised more than £5million, or about €6.5milion in our money, which is really phenomenal.

“Shoutout to Niall, who was more instrumental in the organisation than I initially realised,” he admitted.

Speaking about his pal, Eoghan couldn’t help but condone how Niall has used his status and influence for so much good at such a young age.

“Without wanting to sound condescending, I’m very proud of him.

“He’s taken the whirlwind of these past five years in his stride and very quietly goes about his business, doing good for others.

“This match comes only a week after his fundraiser with golfer Justin Rose raised another million for charity.

“Using your status and influence for good at such a young age is a credit to himself, his family and his country,” he added.
