Des Bishop opens up on family struggle: 'It's been a terrible time for my mother'

Des Bishop has revealed his reason for returning home to Ireland was solely for his mum, Eileen.

The comedian has admitted that his mum is currently unwell after suffering from lung cancer and sustaining some nasty injuries in the last few months.

“I have major family stuff going on. The real reason I was home was that my mother’s not well,” he said.

The Irish-American comedian’s troubles all began in November of last year with a routine operation to remove a tumor from his mum’s neck.

“It seemed like it was pretty routine but its been nothing but problems ever since, she fell down the stairs and broke her neck last March and just last week she fell again and broke her hip,” he said.

“It’s basically just been a battle. It’s been a terrible time for my mother.”

The New York native explained that his mother is finding it difficult to accept her situation.

“Because she is such a fighter she has struggled to accept her situation and her lack of mobility, so that has led to the other accidents<” he said.

“It’s tough. It sucks. Myself and my brother, Aidan are basically tag teaming back and forth. But we  have lots of help and family here. It’s important for us to be around,” he told The Irish Daily Star.
