Dáithí Ó Sé opens up about his relationship with Maura Derrane: ‘We’ve never pretended to be best friends’

Dáithí Ó Sé has opened up about his working relationship with Maura Derrane.

The pair have co-hosted RTÉ’s Today show for almost 10 years, but that doesn’t mean they’re the best of friends.

Speaking to the RTÉ Guide, Dáithí confessed: “When I finish the run in May, I won’t speak with Maura again until a week or so before we go back on air in September.”

“We are never in each other’s pockets and we’ve never pretended to be best friends, hanging out with each other after work and all that,” he explained.

“The only time we spend together is the time in rehearsal or live on the show and that has worked for both of us.”

“The show is a totally different animal now to what it was 10 years ago. It’s a lot more fun and looser in style.”

Following their summer break, the Today show returns to RTÉ One next Monday, September 27, with Dáithí and Maura.

New presenter Emer O’Neill will also be filling in for Sinead Kennedy, who is on extended maternity leave.
