Claire Byrne opens up about her coronavirus experience: ‘I thought I had killed my parents’

Claire Byrne has admitted she thought she had killed both her parents – after she was diagnosed with COVID-19.

The broadcaster revealed that she was more worried about her parents than he own health, once she found out she tested positive for coronavirus.

Claire, 44, continued to host her RTÉ show Claire Byrne Live from the shed in her back garden.

Speaking on the Human Nature podcast with Rodney Edwards, Claire said she was terrified about infecting her parents.

“I was terrified, absolutely terrified. I thought I had killed both my parents in truth because they’re no longer young,” she admitted.

“Particularly my dad would be considered to be in the vulnerable category, and that was my big concern,” she added.

The mum-of-two revealed that she wanted to return to work so badly, she was hoping her test would be negative.

“All I wanted for somebody to tell me I did not have COVID-19 so I could get back into work but then I get the call to say, ‘Oh your test was positive.’

“I was in complete shock but actually, in retrospect, I was quite sick.”

Since recovering from the illness Claire admitted she has continued to sneeze back to back.

“‘I still have these mad sneezes back to back, ten in the morning or the afternoon, the evening,” she explained.

“I’m telling myself, ‘Aw you’ve just developed hayfever,’ but maybe that isn’t true. I’m not entirely sure.”
