Chris O'Dowd to become a father 'towards the end of January', his dad reveals

Hollywood star Chris O’Dowd’s father has revealed his first child is due “towards the end of January”.

The Moone Boy star is set to receive the Freedom of Roscommon later tonight in Boyle.

And dad Sean O’Dowd said that his daughter-in-law Dawn O’Porter is in the “very best of form” ahead of giving birth.

He said: “I was tapping its outer skin, in other words its mummy’s tummy last night, Dawn is in the very best of form. We’re really looking forward to that.”

“It’ll be our 10th grandchild. It’ll be Chris’ first child and Dawn’s first child, and please God, towards the end of January I’ll be a grandfather for the 10th time.”

But Sean insisted on Morning Ireland that Chris hasn’t let Hollywood success go to his head – as he gets the Freedom of Roscommon.

He said: “Not a chance. He’s a very firmly grounded 35-year-old at this stage! What you see is what you get with Chris.

“We’re so delighted and happy that Roscommon County Council are coming on board with tonight’s ceremony.

“We’re so delighted life has gone well for him and he’s been lucky in a very crowded field.”

And Sean revealed that Chris’ Broadway play will become the first ever to be filmed for cinemas.

He said: “His play there, which went down so well on Broadway, Of Mice and Men, that it has actually been chosen to be the first Broadway play filmed and it’ll be shown in cinemas, including our local one – Carrick-on-Shannon – on November 6.

“It’s really great news and a great recognition for Ireland and Boyle and Chris, in particular.”
