Charlie Bird has issued another heartbreaking health update.
The former RTÉ correspondent was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2021, after noticing issues with his speech.
The 73-year-old took to X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday evening to update his followers on his condition – admitting he was in tears over “the way my illness is going”.
Charlie wrote: “I am crying my eyes out this evening because of the way my illness is going.”
“But I am so honoured that I have been invited to help launch the Bewley’s Hospice coffee morning tomorrow. None of us knows when we might need the hospice.”
“Please support the coffee morning 21st of Sept,” he added.

It comes after Charlie revealed he can no longer walk unassisted.
He tweeted earlier this month: “I want to be honest my MND is getting worse, I cannot walk any longer unless I have a walking stick.”
“But other things are deteriorating as well.. But I keep promising while I have a breath in my body I am going to continue to extend the hand of friendship. Love you all.”
