Caroline Morahan: 'I could NEVER live in Ireland – I'd never be taken seriously as an actress'

Caroline Morahan has claimed she could never live in Ireland – as people wouldn’t take her seriously as an actress.

The ex-RTE star believes that people would only see her as the TV presenter she used to be and had to move to Los Angeles.

She said: “I gave up living in Ireland in order to have an opportunity to act because I wouldn’t get this opportunity here.

“I know people would say, ‘Oh, you’re a TV presenter.’ That was a big sacrifice because I love Ireland, my family and my friends.

“But I hope that some day I’ll be able to work here as well as live here.”

The 37-year-old – who is home to make her Abbey debut – knows that some may sneer at her trying to become an actress in Ireland while in LA she is applauded.

She said: “In LA, people are positive and they are always open to possibility and change. They encourage other people to succeed. They say, good for you, go for it.”

But Caroline told the Sunday Independent that she does want to come back to Ireland eventually to have babies with husband Daithi O’Caoimh.

She added: “I have a couple of friends with newborns who are actresses in LA and they are making it work.

“I think it’s something that you definitely can do if you’re able to organise a team around you.

“But if we were to have children, I’d like them to be educated in Ireland. It seems so far off but biologically it’s not that far off, were it to happen. I’m 37, it’s not like I’m 28.”
