Bryan Dobson will host RTÉ’s Six One News for the final time tonight.

The 57-year-old, who has co-anchored the show since 1996, is making the move to radio, as he’ll join the Morning Ireland line-up next week.

Although Bryan will read the headlines for the last time tonight, RTÉ are yet to decide on a replacement.

However, a spokesperson told the Irish Independent that it will be announced “in the coming weeks”.

“It’s likely there will be a rotating schedule of news presenters filling his role for an interim period, similar to what happened on ‘Morning Ireland’ when Cathal Mac Coille finished at the end of July,” she added.

During the summer, Bryan’s salary sparked a gender pay gap argument, as it was revealed that he earned €60,000-€80,000 more than his co-anchor Sharon Ni Bheoláin.

However, there’s no bad blood between the pair, as Bryan said that he and Sharon may head out for a meal together followed by “a few drinks” with colleagues.

An RTÉ source said, “Bryan was reluctant to make a big deal about him leaving because the way he sees it, he’s only moving across the room.

“He’s a very under-stated guy and doesn’t want a big fuss made. He would be happy enough with a low-key affair.”

Meanwhile, Bryan will make his debut on Morning Ireland next Wednesday.
