Filming for Blake Lively’s upcoming film The Rhythm Section has started in Ireland.
The makers of the Bond movies are producing a female global espionage thriller, which will star Blake as the lead, with The Handmaid’s Tale director/exec producer Reed Morano at the helm of the project.
Earlier this year, Reed was spotted scouting for filming locations in Wicklow – and now it looks like the critically-acclaimed director has returned and is ready to start filming.
Taking to Instagram, Reed posted a picture of a red-haired woman looking at some moody clouds in the Irish countryside, and wrote, “Here we go #therhythmsection.”
The Rhythm Section will be the movie adaption of the first book in Mark Burnell’s four-part series.
The story follows the lead character, Stephanie Patrick, whose life is ruined when her family are all killed in a plane crash that she was meant to be on.
However, she then discovers that the plane crash wasn’t an accident, and turns into a deadly assassin – determined to take revenge on the people responsible.
Reed also posted a picture from a location in Dublin – but it’s unclear whether the woman in the picture is Blake, so fans are unsure whether the Hollywood starlet has landed in Ireland just yet.
Parts of U.S, the U.K, Spain, and Switzerland will also record scenes for the thriller.
In a previous statement, Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said, “It is exciting for us to be working with the immensely talented team of director Reed Morano and actress Blake Lively, who have a strong vision for this very compelling story driven by a female protagonist.”
Production company IM Global founder Stuart Ford said, “In Stephanie Patrick, Mark has created a unique female heroine who turns so many of the current cinematic clichés surrounding so-called ‘kick-ass’ female leads on their head.
“To be bringing such a fresh, realistic and bold international thriller to the big screen with EON Productions, Reed and Blake is an exciting proposition for us all at IM Global.”
With three other books in the series, producers are hoping the film will follow in the footsteps of the James Bond films and turn into a franchise.
Blake has two children, James and Ines, with her actor husband Ryan Reynolds, but it’s unclear whether her family will travel to Ireland with her.
