Baz Ashmawy says ‘mammies got slapped by chimps’ while filming 50 Ways

Baz Ashmawy has admitted that filming for the new series of 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy was like Planet of the Apes.

The presenter’s Emmy-award winning show is going into it’s third and final season, with four other mammies joining him and his mum Nancy Ashmawy – Anne, Ros, Joy and Grace.

“It was like that scene from Planet Of The Apes where they’re coming over Brooklyn Bridge,” he said.

In the first episode Baz and the mammies are introduced to a chimpanze called Sunny in Uganda, who Nancy has to take care of before integrating back into the wild.

“There was a bit of nervousness and all was going well,” he told Ian Dempsey on his Today FM breakfast show.

“We were to integrate Sunny into a group of other baby chimpanzees – and I swear, it was like that scene from Planet Of The Apes where they’re coming over Brooklyn Bridge.

“I was going ‘woah woah woah, they’re not the same as Sunny!’

“They started going, no pun intended, bananas. They started slapping mammies. It got dangerous!”

Nancy revealed that while they were escaping the madness, one came over and slapped her on the leg not once but twice.

“One came and slapped me on the leg. Next thing, it turned around again and gave me another slap,” she said.

“So I said ‘Get me out of here!'”
