Louis Theroux’s Scientology film WON’T be hitting Irish cinemas

Louis Theroux’s Scientology documentary won’t be hitting cinemas.

The filmmaker previously announced when the film would be landing in the UK and Ireland – but it appears it will only be shown in the UK.

The film won’t be shown in Ireland because of our country’s blasphemy laws, and in particular the Defamation Act Of 2009.

Blasphemy: Louis’ new documentary won’t be shown in Ireland because of religious laws | BBC FILMS

According to this piece of legislation, any “publication or utterance of blasphemous matter” against any religion is an offence and can lead to a fine of €25,000.

Movies@ owner Graham Spurling told Entertainment.ie that the film won’t be shown in his cinemas because of this law.

There is yet to be a cinema willing to show the documentary.
