Anna Geary to return for next season of popular RTÉ programme

Anna Geary has confirmed that she will return as coach for the next season of Ireland’s Fittest Family.

The Cork native had to pull out of the latest season, which will premiere this weekend, as she was due to give birth to her son Ronan during filming.

In her absence, Anna was replaced by Irish Olympian Sonia O’Sullivan as the show’s newest coach.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Anna said: “It will definitely be weird watching it this year but I think I’ll really enjoy it too watching them all and knowing I haven’t done or said anything and don’t have to ring my Mam to say ‘Maybe don’t watch this episode’.

“Normally when I’m involved I’m watching from behind the couch, or watching with my eyes covered.. It is really hard to watch yourself because it is a really competitive show because I forget I’m on camera.”

The new mother said that she looks forward to seeing new coach Sonia in action, as she commended the athlete’s competitiveness.

“But I’m really looking forward to seeing Sonia in action because she’s stepping in this year and she’s so competitive,” she said.

The camogie star said she will be following this year’s show closely, and aims to return “with a vengeance”.

Anna joked: “And whoever wins this year I will be reminding them that there is a little asterisk beside their name and that they did it when I wasn’t a coach so it doesn’t really count in my eyes just to rise them.”

“If anything I’ll be taking notes watching so that next year I’ll have all the tricks of the trade.”

“They haven’t kicked me out of the WhatsApp group anyway so I’m texting them all…” she added.

New coach, Sonia will be joined alongside Nina Carberry, Davy Fitzgerald and Donncha O’Callaghan.

The series is set to return to screens on RTÉ One this Sunday, October 29, at 6:30pm.
