Kian Egan: 'We had a difficult Christmas without Jodi's mum'

Kian Egan has admitted the holiday season has been difficult for his family – since his wife, Jodi Albert’s mother passed away.

The former Hollyoaks actress had a tough year after her mum Eileen lost her battle with cancer in February – but found solace in welcoming  baby Zeke some months later.

“We had a sad Christmas last year with Jodi’s mum being so ill and it’s sad this year, being our first Christmas without her, but we have our new baby Zeke and it’s his first Christmas so it’s a happy one too,” he said.

“Having a new baby at Christmas time is always nice.”

Although the Christmas period can be tough, Kian revealed the couple are happy to be in Ireland full-time now.

“We’re back in Ireland full-time now so it was nice setting the house up for Christmas,” he told the Mirror.

“We’ve been able to put all of our attention into one house instead of jumping over and back between here and England.

“We used to spend Christmas Day in Ireland and then New Year’s in England or else vice versa, but this year we’re just going to be in Sligo and it’s been lovely,” he admitted.

“Koa’s really understanding Christmas this year and so there has been great excitement about Santa Claus and everything.”

Meanwhile, the Voice of Ireland coach opened up about his wife’s new venture, Jodi’s Boutique in Sligo – revealing it’s thriving.

“It’s going great – we’ve had nothing but good things. It’s Christmas season so it’s a good one for clothes,” he said.

“People seem to be liking it and she’s doing good business.

“Sligo is a small town so you can only ever expect to do a certain amount of business but we’re doing great so far,” he added.

“But you never know how it’s going to go until after the first year because you need to take every season into account.”
