Dublin City Council invites public to homecoming reception for Ireland’s Women’s World Cup squad

Dublin City Council have invited the public to welcome home the Republic of Ireland’s Women’s World Cup squad.

The homecoming reception will take place on Thursday, August 3, at 6.30pm in front of the GPO on O’Connell St.

The public will be treated to entertainment by Block Rockin’ Beats DJ Dec Pierce, before the team takes to the stage to be welcomed by MC Dave Moore from Today FM.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste said: “We’ve all enjoyed watching the Girls in Green do us proud in Australia.”

“Now is our chance to tell them in person just how proud we are of them. I have no doubt their efforts will have inspired lots of girls and boys all over the city to try and be like them some day.”

“So come along to O’Connell St on Thursday and lets give Vera [Pauw] and the squad a welcome home to remember!”

The Republic of Ireland played the inaugural 2023 Women’s World Cup match against host nation Australia on Thursday, July 20.

The following Wednesday [July 26], captain Katie McCabe made history as she scored the Republic of Ireland’s first ever goal in the Women’s World Cup.

The Tallaght native scored in the fourth minute of the Girls in Green’s match against Canada.

On Monday, July 31, the Girls in Green made history once again as they claimed the Republic of Ireland’s first ever point in the Women’s World Cup with their draw against Nigeria.
