The Coronas’ Danny O’Reilly saw his passion for GAA was reignited while recording the bands latest album in London.
And the band’s frontman – who always loved the sport – dusted off his boots and joined North London Shamrock in a bid to unwind from the band
“We had a bit of time off in the summer because we were just recording in London so we would have some evenings off,” he said.
GAA star: His side became London champions
“I wanted to go back playing GAA for the craic and to get away from the band for a bit.
“We’re called the North London Shamrocks and it’s great fun. I was playing midfield – well I was actually playing 15 but they brought me on as a third midfielder.
“It’s been amazing to play for a team. I didn’t think I’d be able join a team again especially since we moved over to London.”
All-round-star: Danny is a talented GAA player – as well as musician
However Danny admitted that his teammates had absolutely no clue who he was.
He said: “I went down the first day and they were like ‘Oh what is it you do?’ and I was like ‘I’m a singer’.
“And they were like ‘Jeez that must be very tough going’. And they were like ‘Are you a singer-songwriter or is it covers?’ and I was like, ‘No, I played the O2 last week’.”

“The album still sounds like us but it’s a little bit different. It’s called The Long Way and its coming out at the end of November,” he said.
Speaking on Today FM, Danny added that the band are planning a huge Irish gig in 2016.
“We’ve got a couple of shows in the UK but we’re planning a big show here – I’m not really meant to announce it,” he said.
