Original Rude Boys SLAM The Voice: 'Reality shows are not a good way to get a career in music'

Bands & artists arrive at The Morrison Hotel ahead of Arthur's Day 2013

The Original Rude Boys Sean ‘Neddy’ Arkins has revealed he doesn’t think singing shows like The Voice are a good way for artists to make it in the music business.

Speaking at the launch of the new Nando’s restaurant in Tallaght the Dublin singer told Goss.ie he thinks reality shows only purpose is to entertain the viewers at home, not to make careers for the hopeful contestants.

“I think they’re good entertainment shows. They’re number one purpose is entertainment. I don’t think they’re the best way to go about getting a career in music.”

“There’s a million other ways you can go about being a musician. They’re entertainment shows for TV.

“We started off four years ago and we decided to just do it from the ground up, stuck a video up on YouTube, very organic.”

“A handful of acts from those shows go on to be successful. You could blow up off of a show like The Voice and be huge one week and be forgotten the next week,” he added.

Sean told Goss.ie that the lads still stand by their decision and  are glad they didn’t perform with Chris.

“We had a single out at the time called Blue Eyes which was about domestic violence and obviously, everyone knows Chris Brown’s background” he said.

“We weren’t there to pass judgement, we said in private we didn’t feel comfortable doing the show and for whatever reason it got out  to the media and blew up. We still stick by that decision.”

Meanwhile, the boys are currently looking ahead to writing their next album in the coming months.

“We’ve basically got the next three or four months to knuckle down in the studio all day and work on new material that will hopefully end up as an EP that everyone will love,” he added.
