Monaghan designer Aoife Hastings has beaten hundreds of Joss Stone fans in a competition to design her new album cover.

Aoife, 26, found out the exciting news when Joss herself rang her to reveal she had won the competition.

“I sent off my design, thinking I had not a monkeys chance of winning. Then last Tuesday evening after about a month and a half, I received a phonecall,” Aoife told Goss.ie.

“I answered to then hear ‘Hello this is Joss Stone’. Well I nearly fell over.

“I couldn’t believe I was on the phone to Joss, she was so bubbly, down to earth and an absolute pleasure to chat to.

“She announced that I had won the competition, saying that there was so many fantastic entries but mine had made the cover.

“She said she absolutely loved it. And asked me could she use it. We then had a chat about my influences and how I viewed her through my eyes.

“It was humbling to have Joss listen to my thought process and hearing how much she appreciated it.

Aoife, who is an up and coming designer based in London, will get to meet Joss soon ahead of debuting the new album.

The University of Limerick graduate came across the competition when Joss recorded a scene for new Martin Scorcese movie Tomorrow in Battersea venue The Magic Garden owned by Aoife’s friend.

Joss’s new record is titled Water For Your Soul, and Aoife explained the name inspired her design.

“After reading the brief and the album title Water For Your Soul I really felt I could connect with this particular piece of artwork and come up with something beautiful.

“Then I thought, if the music is water for you soul and Joss is the artist creating this. She essentially is, the element of water in it’s entirety.

“I wanted it to feel free & soulful, but also beautiful. Just like her music.”

Taking to her Facebook page this week Joss revealed Aoife as the winner out of hundreds of entries.

“I have chosen this piece because it says to me how free we can be. It says to me love, fluidity; Mother Nature’s earth is what gives us soul.

“This lady here looks like the wild flower fairy I wish I could be. She is beautiful, Unstoppable and graceful like the rivers that join with the deep blue sea.

“Eternally free, and that is how I want to feel. I wish for everyone to feel that when receiving what I have to give.

“Thank you Aoife! You captured something very special here.”
