Imelda May opens up on struggle for stardom: 'I was ALWAYS on the bread line'

Singer Imelda May has revealed she was constantly in financial struggle when she was trying to make it as a singer.

The Dublin star made it into the charts in her thirties, but admitted she could barely afford food before she became a big name.

“I don’t really remember any times that I wasn’t on the breadline,” she revealed.

“It was tough. I was in my 30s before started to do well — I’d been doing it since I was 16. I remember once I was down to my last tin in the press.

“It was a tin of Ambrosia and I was thinking: ‘God, I have to do something about this.’ I couldn’t face any more three-in-ones!”

Speaking to the Irish Sun Imelda admitted that going through tough times gave her inspiration for her songs.

“It’s good for you sometimes. It gives you more things to write about,” she said.
