Garth Brooks could still be cancelled – as council unsure whether to grant licence

Garth Brooks gigs could still be cancelled – as Dublin City Council has no idea whether to approve the licences.

The US singer is supposed to be playing five shows in Croke Park later this month to more than 240,000 fans, with local residents vowing to block them.

And Dublin City Council – which initially planned to make a statement on the licensing on Friday – is still making their mind up about whether to give them the go ahead.

“Dublin City Council is taking the concerns of the residents very, very seriously and they just don’t know what to do,” a source told the Herald.

Now though, a council spokesperson said yesterday they, “anticipate a decision will be made on the event licence application within the next week”.

Recently, the GAA insisted that the shows would be going ahead after admitting they made mistakes about putting on so many shows.

However Croke Park residents have vowed to take legal action if the shows to go ahead.

Chairman of the Croke Park Street Committees Eamon O’Brien said: “They probably don’t think that we are prepared to go to court, well they will find out soon enough.”
