Two Irish films listed in TIME’s Top Ten of 2016

TIME magazine has named Irish films Sing Street and The Lobster in it’s Top Ten Best Movies of 2016 so far list.

John Carney’s 80’s musical drama Sing Street and Yorgos Lanthimo’s The Lobster, which starred our very Colin Farrell, impressed at the box office worldwide this year – and now their success has been put in writing.

“Even if the premise sounds familiar, it’s unlikely you’ve seen it handled with as much charm as director John Carney brings to this coming-of-age tale set in mid-1980s Dublin.

“Sing Street is magnetic enough to win over even a hardened skeptic of the movie musical,” the magazine wrote.

TIME also said about The Lobster, “Colin Farrell charms as a singleton whose displeasure with the regime is matched by his disappointment at the totalitarianism of its defectors”.

Other films named on the list included The Nice Guys, The Jungle Book, The Witch and Zootopia.

The news comes after TIME put Saoirse Ronan on the cover of their international edition last week.
