Gerard Barrett’s latest movie is already a hit with audiences.
The Kerry director premiered his new film Brain On Fire at the Toronto Film Festival, and left a lasting impression.
The film is based on the book by Susannah Cahalan, which follows a young girl (Chloe Moretz) diagnosed with a mystery illness.
The book was optioned by Charlize Theron, who is a producer on the movie, and follows the girl’s battle with the illness including paranoid episodes and memory lapses.
After premiering at the festival, dozens of people took to Twitter to say how much they loved the movie, with Gerard himself sharing the moment the movie got a standing ovation.

BRAIN ON FIRE is tense, frustrating and so important. Not all battles are easy, but that doesn’t mean you give up just because others do.
