Avengers: Infinity War makes box office history

Marvel spent 10 years methodically and carefully creating a universe of characters

Avengers: Infinity War has made history.

This weekend, the Marvel Studios action film earned an estimated $250 million while it screened at 4,474 theatres across the US and Canada, and made $630 million worldwide.

According to E! the film is the highest domestic debut of all time.

Marvel now boasts six of the top 10 opening weekends of all time.

The film is one of six movies in history to go beyond the $200 million mark in their domestic debuts.

The other five movies to have done that are: The Avengers , Jurassic World, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Black Panther.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney Studios distribution chief Dave Hollis said, “Marvel spent 10 years methodically and carefully creating a universe of characters, worlds and stories that all led to this and, in doing so, created an event unlike anything the business has ever seen.”
