The Irish woman was one of the first female keepers at Belfast zoo and decided to protect the elephant after RUC officers shot dead 23 animals for fear that they would escape during the blitz on the city.

The zoo keeper brought Sheila the elephant back to her home and kept her in the safety of her garden before walking the elephant to its enclosure every morning.

Amy joins Game of Thrones stars Art Parkinson and Ian McElhinney as well as Moone Boy actor Ian O’Reilly on the project, according to the Sun.

Shooting for the flick is set to begin later this summer.
