Alec Baldwin is speaking out about the infamous voicemail he left daughter Ireland in 2007.
The actor called Ireland a “rude, thoughtless little pig” after she missed their scheduled phone call, and he now says it caused a “permanent” break in their relationship.
“It’s thrown in your face every day,” he explained during an interview with Good Morning America’s George Stephanopoulos that aired on Monday.
“There are people who admonish me or attack me and use that as a constant spearhead to do that.”
Alec added: “It’s a scab that never heals cause it’s being picked at all the time by other people. My daughter, that’s hurt her in a permanent way.”
The voicemail came during the star’s custody battle with Ireland’s mother Kim Basinger, who he separated from in 2000 after seven years of marriage.
Nowadays, the 59-year-old and his 21-year-old daughter have a much better relationship, and have even poked fun at the comment.
Alec, who also shares three children with current wife Hilaria Baldwin, is promoting his memoir Nevertheless ahead of its release on Tuesday.
