Super Size Me filmmaker Morgan Spurlock dies age 53

Morgan Spurlock, the filmmaker and star of the 2004 documentary Super Size Me, has died aged 53.

In a statement on Friday, his family confirmed he passed away on Thursday, May 23rd, in New York from complications of cancer.

His brother Craig said in a statement, “It was a sad day, as we said goodbye to my brother Morgan. Morgan gave so much through his art, ideas and generosity. The world has lost a true creative genius and a special man. I am so proud to have worked together with him.”

The 53-year-old is survived by two sons, Laken and Kallen.

Morgan shot to fame in 2004 with his groundbreaking Super Size Me documentary, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature.

In the film, he challenged himself to only eat McDonald’s meals for an entire month while examining the fast food industry.

He returned with a sequel in 2019 called Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!.

His other documentaries included Where in the World Is Osama bin Laden in 2008, and The Greatest Movie Ever Sold in 2011.
