A new report has revealed what lead to Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello’s breakup.
The Modern Family star, 51, and the True Blood actor, 46, confirmed their split on Monday, after seven years of marriage.
A source has since told PEOPLE: “They have been growing apart for some time now and tried to resolve things, but they are focused on different areas of their lives.”
A second source added: “I have never seen two people so in love, so passionate and so happy. They were always, laughing, lovey-dovey and really happy.
“They definitely love and respect each other but once that initial passion dies down and other areas get in the way, then little differences get bigger.
“They had differences in how their lives should go forward and it caused stress.”
The insider also claimed Sofia always had reservations about marrying a fellow actor.
“Sofía is a smart and hardworking girl who thinks of everything that could go wrong before it actually does,” the source said.
“Joe is pretty low key and for years this suited both of them. This has been chipping away for a while.”
The former couple confirmed their split in a statement shared with Page Six on Monday.
They said: “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
Sofia is currently celebrating her 51st birthday with friends in Italy, and eagle-eyed friends noticed she wasn’t wearing her wedding ring in photos from the trip.
Sofia and Joe met at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in 2014, and tied the knot the following year.
A host of famous faces were in attendance – including Sofia’s Modern Family co-stars Ariel Winter, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland and Ty Burrell, as well as Joe’s True Blood co-stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer.
Sofia was previously married to her high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez, who she shares a 31-year-old son named Manolo with.
