Rebel Wilson has claimed “several women” have contacted her since she went public with her claims against Sacha Baron Cohen.
The actress accused her former co-star of “humiliating and degrading” her on the set of their 2016 film Grimsby in her new memoir Rebel Rising.
While Sacha has strenuously denied her claims against him, Rebel has warned that “the truth will come out”.
She told The Sun on Sunday: “What’s been comforting is, like, several women have now been in contact and it’s up to them whether they want to go public with their stories.”
“Because it is hard to say something against somebody who’s high profile because they hit you with high-price lawyers and crisis PR people and all sorts of little tricks.”
“It doesn’t feel great when all I’m doing is sharing my story in my memoir, which I’m very entitled to do.”
“But I always think the truth will come out, which is why it’s great to have the book out now so people don’t just read the headlines but can read the actual chapter.”
There is no suggestion the women who have contacted Rebel have made similar allegations against Sacha.
In her explosive memoir Rebel Rising, the actress wrote about her experience working with Sacha on the 2016 film Grimsby, in which she played the role of Dawn – who was his character Nobby’s wife.
Rebel claimed that the actor asked her to strip naked for a scene, despite her “no nudity” rule.
During an interview with The Sunday Times to promote her memoir, Rebel claimed she felt “disrespected” on set, and said: “It’s one thing for someone who is fat to exploit their size for comedy, but it’s another for somebody else to humiliate you.”
The actress also said she felt like her costumes were chosen to “see all the cellulite on my thighs and a top to show the fattest part of my arm”, leaving her feeling “like I was something to be laughed at and degraded because of my size”.
“I’m sharing my story now because the more women talk about things like this, hopefully the less it happens. And hopefully fewer women have to work harder just to respect themselves,” she said.
Sacha has strongly denied Rebel’s version of events on set.
In a statement, his rep said: “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby.”
The allegations made against Sacha come amid his shock split from his wife of 13 years, Isla Fisher.
The Borat star and the Wedding Crashers actress have kept their relationship out of the spotlight for the majority of their relationship.
However, it has now been revealed that the couple, who first met back in 2001, have been separated since 2023.
A source told Page Six that Sacha met with celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser late last year.
However, the couple have not yet officially filed for divorce.
Both Sacha and Isla shared a photo of the couple dressed in tennis gear to announce their split on Friday.
The Instagram story read: “After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down.”
“In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritized our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change.”
“We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy.”
A source has since told The Sun that Isla had started to find the allegations in Rebel’s book “embarrassing”.
The insider said: “Rebel’s book was a catalyst in Isla deciding to announce this to the world. She’s got her own career and reputation to worry about.
“Those close to her said it was starting to get embarrassing with all of the allegations that were spilling out of Rebel’s book. So she felt as though it was the right thing to do to inform everyone of their decision.”
