Matthew Morrison ‘fired from reality show after sending inappropriate texts to contestant’

Matthew Morrison was reportedly fired from ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ after he sent inappropriate messages to a contestant.

The Glee star, 43, was a judge on the US reality show which saw hopefuls take to the stage to show off their dance moves in an attempt to win the grand prize.

The actor confirmed his departure from the show last week, just days after the season 17 premiere.

He said in a statement to PEOPLE at the time: “Having the opportunity to be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance was an incredible honour for me. Therefore, it is my deepest regret to inform you that I will be leaving the show.”

“After filming the audition rounds for the show and completing the selection of the 12 finalists, I did not follow competition production protocols, preventing me from being able to judge the competition fairly.”

“I cannot apologize enough to all involved and I will be watching alongside you all on what I know will be one of the best seasons yet.”

A source has since told PEOPLE that Matthew was sacked from the show due to inappropriate texts.

The insider said the actor “had an inappropriate relationship with a female contestant”.

They explained: “They didn’t have sex, but he reached out to her through flirty direct messages on social media.”

The source added: “She felt uncomfortable with his line of comments and went to producers, who then got Fox involved. He was fired after they did their own investigation.”

The insider also explained that the pair never met up off-set, but claimed his messages had “crossed the line”.

It’s believed the actor will still appear in the upcoming episodes as they have been pre-recorded, with his replacement stepping in when the next stage of filming begins.
