Hunter Schafer pens emotional tribute to Euphoria co-star Angus Cloud: ‘He was sunshine’

Hunter Schafer has penned an emotional tribute to her Euphoria co-star Angus Cloud, following his tragic death.

The 25-year-old, best known for playing Fezco in the hit HBO drama, passed away in his home in Oakland, California on Monday.

Hunter, who plays Jules on the show, has since taken to Instagram to pay tribute to Angus.

She wrote: “been trying to figure out what to say, but idk if any combination of words can articulate all of the big feelings. for now i just wanna say: Angus was a sunshine.”

“to have known his warmth, his light, and his love was nothing short of a gift. i’m so grateful to have shared so many enormous fits of laughter, so many sweet moments, and the joy of getting to make something together that we loved so much.”

“i love you angus 💗 thank you for everything. my heart goes out to his family and all of his loved ones right now.”

Maude Apatow, who plays the on-screen love interest of Angus’ character Fezco in Euphoria, also took to Instagram on Wednesday to pay tribute to the star.

Sharing photos of them together, she wrote: “Angus was the funniest person ever. I would get so excited to see on the schedule that we would be working together because I knew we’d have the best day, laughing so hard.”

“He was the sweetest and made everyone around him so happy. He was just the best. Words can’t really capture how magical of a person he was. My heart is broken.”

“Angus, getting to know and work with you was one of the greatest joys and blessings of my life. I will love you forever,” she added.

Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney also posted emotional tributes to their Euphoria co-star on Tuesday.

Sharing a photo of Angus on Instagram, Zendaya wrote: “Words are not enough to describe the infinite beauty that is Angus (Conor).”

“I’m so grateful I got the chance to know him in this life, to call him a brother, to see his warm kind eyes and bright smile, or hear his infectious cackle of a laugh (I’m smiling now just thinking of it).”

“I know people use this expression often when talking about folks they love…’they could light up any room they entered’ but boy let me tell you, he was the best at it.”

“I’d like to remember him that way. For all of the boundless light, love and joy he always managed to give us. I’ll cherish every moment. My heart is with his mother and family at this time and please be kind and patient as grief looks different for everyone,” she added.

Sydney shared a series of photos of them together on Instagram, and wrote: “Angus you were an open soul, with the kindest heart, and you filled every room with laughter.”

“This is the hardest thing ive ever had to post, and im struggling to find all the words. You will be missed more than you know, but I’m so blessed to have known you in this lifetime, and I’m sure everyone who has ever met you feels the same.”

“This heartache is real and I wish we could’ve had one more hug and 711 run. All my love is with you.”

In a statement on Monday, the actor’s family revealed he “intensely struggled” with the passing of his father in the weeks before his death.

The statement read: “It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today. As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways.”

“Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend.

“Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.”

“We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter and love for everyone. We ask for privacy at this time as we are still processing this devastating loss,” the statement concluded.

Following the news of his death, Alexa Demie also posted a simple broken heart emoji on her Instagram Story.

The actress plays Maddy Perez in Euphoria, which first premiered in 2019.

The cast mates were close friends off-camera, and previously shared photos together on social media.

Just days before the 25-year-old was found dead at his home in Oakland on Monday, Angus and his family had returned to Ireland to bury his father Conor Hickey.

While the actor was born in California, his family hail from Ireland – where the majority of them still live.

It’s understood his father passed away at the end of May, following a short illness.

One of Cloud’s final Instagram posts, posted on July 14th, was a photo of his beloved dad smiling alongside the caption: “miss u breh.”

The actor, whose full name was Conor Angus Cloud Hickey, was incredible close to his father, and was even named after him.

During an interview with WSJ Magazine in 2019, Angus said he was planning on moving to Ireland before he was cast in Euphoria.

At the time, he said: “I was gonna move to Ireland for a while. All my family lives out there.”

The 25-year-old was working at a chicken-and-waffles restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, when he was scouted by casting agent Jennifer Venditti.

During a previous interview with GQ, the actor admitted his character Fez was originally supposed to die in the first season.

But the show’s creator Sam Levinson changed his mind after watching Angus perform in the role.

Angus presumed because he didn’t have any acting experience, his character wasn’t supposed to last very long on the show.

He said: “I don’t know, but apparently, because they cast me off the street, I guess the character of Fezco was [never meant to stick around]. I don’t even know how. I never saw that script. No one ever told me.”

Angus only found out his character was supposed to die from co-star Jacob Elordi, who plays Nate Jacobs in the show.

He said: “It was one day when we were filming the pilot that I think Jacob told me, he was like, ‘Oh yeah, you didn’t know? Your character gets [imitates brains getting blown out].’”

“And yeah, it never ended up happening. I think that they liked what I did and so they decided to keep me alive and let me rock.”
