Alec Baldwin speaks out about fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins

Alec Baldwin has spoken out about the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins.

The cinematographer was killed last Thursday, after the actor accidentally misfired a prop gun on the set of his new movie ‘Rust’ in New Mexico.

Speaking to TMZ about the tragedy, Alec said: “She was my family. We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together and then this horrible event happened.”

“A woman died. She was my friend… When I arrived in Santa Fe to start shooting, I took her to dinner with Joel the director.”

Alec said he is in “constant contact” with Halyna’s husband Matthew, adding: “The guy is overwhelmed with grief. This is a one in a trillion event. He is in shock, he has a nine-year-old son.”

“We are in constant contact with him ’cause we are very worried about him and his family.”

“We are eagerly waiting for the sheriff’s department to tell us what their investigation has yielded.”

Officers were called to the Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico, where the incident occurred on the set of ‘Rust’, at about 1.50 pm last Thursday, after receiving a 911 call.

Halyna, 42, was transported via helicopter to University of New Mexico Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

The film’s director Joel Souza, 48, was treated for his injuries at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, and was later released.

Authorities said assistant director Dave Halls handed the prop weapon to Alec and announced “cold gun”, indicating it was safe to use, before he started rehearsing with it.
