Irish stars Sarah Greene, Briain Gleeson and Charlie Murphy are set to star in new TV drama following the violent birth of modern Ireland.
Rebellion is a five part series set for RTE beings in 1914 when Europe is at war and Britain is preoccupied with the German threat.
By 1916, the Easter Rising explodes in Dublin and announced the beginning of the campaign for Irish independence.

“Rebellion will tell personal stories which are intertwined with the political events of the time,” Head of Drama at RTE Television Jane Gogan said.
“However, it is a drama, not a history lesson, and our story is told from the perspectives of a group of fictional characters who live through the political events of 1916.”
“Men, women and children from Belfast, Dublin and London – people whose lives were irrevocably changed by this extraordinary period.”

While Brian and Charlie are both best known for their roles in Love/Hate, Sarah has had most of her career on the stage, being nominated for a Tony Award last year.
Although Brian’s brother Domhnall and father Brendan are normally in the limelight, this show is sure to bring the famous Gleeson brother into his own.
Rebellion will be broadcast on RTE One in 2016.
