Rubberbandits to recreate the 1916 rising for RTE

It’s been revealed the Rubberbandits have signed up with RTE to for a new show about the 1916 rising.

This will be the comedy duo’s first ever show on the broadcaster having only ever appeared in sketches for Republic of Telly.

“The new programme will be about 1916 and why it happened,” a TV source said.

“It will take a look at the strange stories that happened around 1916 and why Irish revolutions happened in general,

“It will be created and presented by the Rubberbandits along with James Cotter, who produced Republic of Telly, and Oliver Callan,” the insider told The Mirror.

The programme will be an hour long but Blindboy Boatclub and Mr Chrome are hoping a series will be commissioned on the back of it.

Guide to Limerick: The show is expected to be similar to their Guide to Limerick sketches on Republic of Telly | VIPIRELAND.COM

“If it works there will be a series where the Rubberbandits will explore different areas of Irish history from their own perspectives,” the TV insider admitted.

The new series is expected to be similar to the Rubberbandits infamous Guide to Limerick sketches which aired on the Republic of Telly – however fans will have to wait until 2016 to watch the show.

“The Rubberbandits wrote and performed three shorts for Channel 4’s Comedy Blaps a couple of years ago but they have never done their own show for RTE before now,” the insider said.

“They are going to be filming the series soon but it might be closer to the anniversary when its is shown.”
