RTE's highly anticipated drama about 1916 gets €400,000 in funding

RTE’s newest drama has received a huge boost, after getting €400,000 in funding.

Rebellion – a five part series about the 1916 series will star Love/Hate’s Charlie Murphy and Brian Gleeson as well as Penny Dreadful star Sarah Greene.

To help with the project BAI have given RTE nearly half a million euro to the project, which is being made by Element Pictures, the same production company behind What Richard Did, Ripper Street and RTE drama Charlie.

“The BAI is particularly pleased to have been able to support a number of projects associated with the 1916 rising and we look forward to seeing these on our screens next year as the country marks the 100th anniversary of this major historical event,” Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive of the BAI said.

Love/Hate - Series 5

She’s back: Charlie Murphy will make her big return to RTE

The series. which was originally named Generation, will begin in 1914 with Europe at war and Britain preoccupied with the German threat.

The drama series will tell personal stories which will be intertwined with political events of the time.
