RTE hit back at TV3's Anna Daly claims about not being female friendly

RTE have hit back at claims they don’t have enough female broadcasters at the station.

The national broadcaster responded to comments made by TV3 host Anna Daly, who reportedly said RTE isn’t female friendly enough.

According to the Irish Mirror, A spokesman said some of its top stars are female.

“We are an equal opportunities employer and proud of our on-air talent – female and male,” a statement said.

“A look at RTE’s TV and radio output provides ample evidence of how central women are to schedules.

“They feature Claire Byrne Live, Miriam O’Callaghan on Prime-Time and Kathryn Thomas presenting Operation Transformation and The Voice,” the statement added.

“RTE drama Rebellion, one of our biggest investments this year, centred on female characters with leading female actors in central roles.

“RTE 2 has also developed and featured a range of female talent including Vogue Williams, Louise McSharry, Jennifer Zamparelli, Maia Dunphy, Sinead Kennedy and Blathnaid Treacy,” they explained.

“The most listened to radio programme in Ireland is Morning Ireland on RTE Radio 1 and is co-presented by journalists including Rachel English, Keelin Shanley and Audrey Carville.

“News At One is presented by Aine Lawlor and Drivetime has 240,000 listeners who tune in to Mary Wilson.”

Previously TV3 darling Anna Daly had said the commercial station is strong on women.

“TV3 is strong on women; Colette Fitzpatrick is one of the key female broadcasters and then there’s Elaine Crowley,” she said.

“The Xpose team is mainly driven by women and Debbie O’Donnell as the power behind Xpose.”
