Pat Kenny opens up about RTE battle: 'It's not World War III'

TV presenter Pat Kenny has fired back at comments made by an RTE insider saying the national broadcaster wouldn’t want the presenter back.

Talking about the “battle” with RTE, the radio host joked: “poor them they don’t want me”.

But the TV veteran admitted to Goss.ie that he was surprised by the story as he left the station on a good note.

“I just thought what else are they going to say, here’s a guy who walks away for all sorts of reasons and walked away by the way leaving all the friendships intact,” he said.

“The DG [Director General], the day I left we gave each other a big hug and there was no bad blood what-so-ever but if you’re in a commercial arena and one of your former stalwarts is now working for somebody else, you do the best you can,” he admitted.

Before adding: “It’s not as if this is World War III”.

Speaking to Goss.ie at the launch of his new show In the Round on UTV Ireland, the Newstalk presenter revealed he didn’t know who shared the comments to the press however it didn’t “upset” him.

“I don’t know who had said it but I understand the black art of propaganda, it’s fine, you know it didn’t upset me, I wasn’t saying ‘Oh my god, look at that’ not at all,” he said frankly.

“Well at the moment no I’m contracted to UTV and that’s where I want to be for the foreseeable”.

Meanwhile, asking if he would go back to his old employer RTE, Pat admitted “never say never”.

“I never say never cos it’s a stupid thing to do as your words can come back to haunt you,” he told Goss.ie.

“I did once say I would never do the Late Late Show again then unfortunately due to a bereavement in Ryan’s family I ended up doing the Late Late Show so you have to be careful about those predictions”.

In the Round kicks off tonight on UTV Ireland at 9PM
