Liam Neeson opens up on working with 'intimidating' Martin Scorsese

Liam Neeson has revealed that working with Martin Scorsese in his latest film Silence was “intimidating” as he, ironically, required absolute silence on set.

The new historical drama is based on the novel by Shusaka Endo and is about 17th-century Jesuit missionaries tasked with bringing Christianity to Japan, where they seek out Liam’s character, a priest who is believed to have lost his faith.

According to Variety.com, Liam said at the Los Cabos Film Festival in Mexico on Saturday, that Martin’s insistence on silence on the set was because “if he hears one tiny sound, it shatters it for him”.

Dedication: Liam lost 20 pounds for his role in new film Silence | VARIETY

The Taken star was dedicated to the role as he lost 20 pounds in weight to play his character, and he mentioned that you have to be fully committed when working with Martin.

“Martin requires a lot of commitment,” he explained, describing the famed director as someone who “gives 200%”.

“All he requires is that you give 100%.”

When it comes to why Liam chose to take on the role, he mentioned his Catholic upbringing and that he was intrigued by the film’s central question of “Is there a God?”
