Kian Egan: 'One Direction will be bigger than ever without Zayn'

Kian Egan has revealed he thinks One Direction will go on to bigger and better things with Zayn out of the picture – just like Westlife did when Brian left.

The pop star knows all too well what it’s like to have a bandmate quit after Brian McFadden called it quits with Westlife at the height of their fame.

However, Kian doesn’t think Zayn’s departure will effect One Direction as Westlife were just fine without Kerry Katona’s ex.

“They’ll continue on as a four piece and be as big as ever. If you remember back to the day when Brian left, we all thought it was over,” he said.

“It was Louis Walsh that kind of pulled us around but it is similar circumstances as well. They are on tour and we were about to go on tour.”

“So I’d say being on tour is going to help them a lot because they’re going to go out as a four piece every night now and gain confidence as a four piece rather than a five piece.”

Chatting with fellow Westlife star Nicky Byne on 2fm, Kian rubbished rumours Niall is set to follow in Zayn’s footsteps and go solo.

“I saw somewhere yesterday that Niall and Harry were signing solo deals with SyCo,” he revealed.

Stick together: Kian doesn’t think Niall will go solo anytime soon

“You know what it’s like Nicky, we were signed to SyCo. They would never pull One Direction apart to take two people solo, that’s just craziness.”

Meanwhile, the Sligo native also offered his two cents on who should replace recently axed Dermot O’Leary as host of The X Factor.

“The rumours are that it’s going to be Olly Murs and Caroline Flack. They’ve got the experience from the Xtra Factor. I think they would be quite good.”
