EXCLUSIVE! Jack Reynor reveals he's taking six months off from acting

Transformers star Jack Reynor has revealed he’s looking forward to taking six months off acting.

Goss.ie can reveal the 23-year-old announced the news at the premiere for his Gerard Barrett’s latest film Glassland.

Since shooting Transformers 4 Jack enjoyed a world tour of the movie before filming A Royal Night Out, Macbeth, Sing Street and the Secret Scripture.

“I’m going to take probably six months off now and just have a nice long break because it’s been seven films back-to-back,” Jack admitted.

“I’m pretty wrecked from it all, it’s been an amazing experience but I’m really wrecked from it now,” he said.

“So I’ll take six months then I have a project in September that I’m very, very excited about – with a great French director so that will be cool”.

The Wicklow native has been busy filming a number of projects abroad but admitted there is nothing better then making a movie at home, like the award-winning Glassland.

“I finished shooting Jim Sheridan’s movie, then Sing Street before that with John Carney so I’m focusing more on Irish films at the moment because I love being able to do them – I love making films at home.”

“There is nothing more important, it gives you the context in yourself to be able to go out and keep being able to do that stuff,” he explained.

“You have to be grounded by what you know and what you understand to be able to objectify anything else – so for me it’s very important to come home and make Irish films,” he added.

And while the spotlight was on Jack at the Lighthouse cinema last night, the film’s talented director Gerard Barrett also spoke his new project Brain on Fire with Charlize Theron.

“What happened was, we’d a screening in Los Angeles – Philip Raskin, who I work with as well and he works with Charlize, he watched it and said he knew she had just optioned Brain on Fire and he brought her into watch it.

“I got a call from her and that was it. She was like ‘I just optioned this book and I want you to do it and I’m saying it to you now, give me a call tomorrow if you want to do it – it was very laissez[faire] but very straightforward and nice,” he said.

When ribbed for being very down-to-earth about his experience with the Oscar-winning actress, Gerard admitted she’s just like the rest of us.

“Sure she’s only normal like, she’s no better or lesser then any of us – she’s just very good at what she does,” he said.

The star studded event was attended by Ireland’s film and TV elite with Love/Hate’s Barry Keoghan and Patrick’s Day director Terry McMahon in the audience.
