Molly Sterling admits: 'I'm not really looking at my Eurovision competition'

Molly Sterling has revealed she hasn’t even heard all of the songs she is up against at this month’s Eurovision.

The Tipperary singer is flying over to Vienna to compete in the semi-finals of the hugely popular song contest.

A total of 33 countries will battle it out in the semi finals, and Molly has admitted she hasn’t been worrying about her competition.

“I actually came across some videos, they’re pretty cool, they are so talented, really I probably should be looking at more of the competition but I’m not,” she told Goss.ie.

The Tipperary native said she has been keeping calm about the contest and is looking forward to getting on stage.

“If you are going to look at it as a competition it’s going to take the enjoyment out of it, I don’t have to look at something as competition to do my best,” she explained.

While she is going over to compete, the St.Andrew’s student is hoping to make some new friends while over in Vienna.

“I get adrenaline from just the stage, the buzz of it so I don’t really see it as a competition, I see it as like future friends, networking, you know,” she revealed.

“This is an amazing opportunity to represent your country and that, blown away by the fact that I’m actually doing it but at the same time it’s a great platform for the album we’ve been working on for the last year.”

Molly is working closely with co-writer Greg French on her debut record and admitted the Eurovision will be a great platform to showcase her style.

“I think people are going to be surprised because it’s maybe not what Ireland would usually expect a Eurovision representative to have. Hopefully they like it,” she told Goss.ie.
