Hozier: 'My spirit animal would be a bear because I could poop in the woods'

Hozier may of had a whirlwind 12 months but it seems he is pinning after the lifestyle of a bear.

When asked by a fan what his spirit animal is, the Wicklow native admitted he has always been drawn to the simple life of a grizzly bear.

“I like dogs a lot, I think they’re great but I’ve always wanted to be a bear,” he said.

“I’ve always want to be a grizzly bear, the sweet simple life of eating fish from a river, then just sleeping a lot and you know just pooping in the woods.”

Spirit animals aside, the 25-year-old has been touring non-stop over the past 18-months – admitting he finds it difficult to relax after experiencing life on the road.

“It’s weird you get itchy feet, the last time I had time off was August, I had a couple of weeks,” he said.

“I was home for three or four days, just as an impulse I bought a plane ticket, I couldn’t sit still. I was gone again.

“I bounced around Europe and stuff. So it does take a while to feel normal and sit in one place for a while,” he admitted.

Speaking to Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1, Hozier shared his family are thrilled about his success.

“They are really, really supportive, they’re thrilled. They try and make it to as many shows as possible,” he smiled.

“I have to bounce over to New York next week and I think my mum is going to come over.”
