Hometown open up on One Direction praise

Hometown have opened up about the reaction their song The Night We Met received after One Direction star Liam Payne shared it to his 21.5million followers on Monday night.

The song which was written by the British singer has racked up over 90,000 retweets and 120,000 favourites.

Cian Morrin from the Irish boyband admitted the tweet has seen the public take them seriously.

“We have had so many people write to us saying Liam Payne took them to our music and they weren’t expecting it to be much, but they listened to it and loved it,” said Cian.

“And now we are seeing more views on our other videos from all around the world. When we first heard it initially we didn’t know it was Liam’s song.

“We loved the song, we wouldn’t have recorded it solely just on his name — because people don’t leave a song on the radio just because of who wrote it if it is not strong enough,” he told the Sun.

The Castlebar native admitted the vote of confidence from the Wolverhampton native was the best way to finish 2015 for the band – but they would love to see their O Holy Night cover reach a million views.
