EXCLUSIVE! Lucy Kennedy opens up about Blind Date being scrapped

TV presenter Lucy Kennedy has opened up about Blind Date being scrapped by TV3.

The mum of two told Goss.ie that she isn’t upset over the decision and that she understands because dating has changed in Ireland today.

“Do you know what I’m not sad about it, I think it makes sense. Dating has changed. I think there was nostalgia attached to Blind Date,” she said.

“I watched it when I was younger and a certain age group watched it but realistically younger people it has changed now the whole dating scene.”

The 39 year old feels something different are more modern is needed and that she is working on a new show.

“It is a tired format and maybe when it was put to rest it was for a reason. So I understand the reasons why. I had a chat with Linda obviously a while ago so I knew this was happening. But look better things to come down the road definitely,”

The former RTÉ presenter wouldn’t reveal the exact details saying, “I can’t tell you. Let’s just say the show I’m doing is very me,”.

Tinder has become a popular way for dating and Lucy finds the idea of finding a partner through technology daunting.

“It’s quite scary. In the old days we just picked up the phone or walked over the dance floor and asked somebody did they want to have a slow dance. Now its all gone a little bit technical, it’s scary,

“It’s changed but I suppose we’ve got to change with the times. So Blind Date doesn’t really exist anymore,” she revealed.

The Dublin native understands that dating has changed but finds the elusiveness of blind dates has disappeared and no mystery remains.

I don’t think people go on blind dates. They know exactly what the person looks like because they can Google them or Facebook them before they go on the date. You know there star sign, you know exactly who you are meeting and what they’ve had for breakfast,

“It’s kind of sad in a way because it stops a lot of the romance and the excitement and the apprehension and the guessing,” she added.

Lucy is currently kept busy with being a mum to Jack and Holly and hosting the 7 O’Clock show on TV3 and said the chat show is doing well.

“Things are great, really good, going from strength to strength, we are getting great guests, people love it,” she said.

“We are now in our fourth month on air, it’s so young I suppose but it’s great it’s really working out. It suits me better being a mum doing the school runs and school collections, it’s a lot easier,” she explained.
