EXCLUSIVE! Deirdre O'Kane: 'A Moone Boy film won't happen next year'

Comedienne Deirdre O’Kane has opened up about the constant rumours over Moone Boy being made into a full feature – admitting it won’t happen next year.

The brunette, who starred as Debra Moone on the hit show, revealed to Goss.ie she had to pull Nick Murphy, co-writer of the Sky One hit, aside to give her “answers” on whether it is or not.

“I asked Nick [Murphy, co-writer of the show] because he was here promoting the book and I said ‘You better give some answers now because I’m getting asked a lot’,” she said.

Rumours: Deirdre admitted she asked co-writer of Moone Boy, Nick Murphy about a possible feature film

“So basically, the reason why I feel it hasn’t happened until now they’ve got this commitment to the book [Moone Boy: The Fish Detective] and that’s the second one out and I know they’ve been commissioned for a third.

“I don’t if that’s going to distract them form writing a screenplay but the good thing is that they want to do it,” she told Goss.ie at the Alex and Ani Talk Series.

“It’s just about time. Chris [O’Dowd] is so busy and so is Nick [Murphy] so they got a lot on their plate.

Feature: Deirdre said she’d love to see a film follow the Moone Boy characters grown up | VIPIRELAND.COM

“They want to make it and I think Sky want to pay for it so I say it will happen but it won’t be next year, maybe the year after,” she divulged.

The funny woman, who is currently based in London, admitted she would love to see a Moone Boy film focusing on Martin Moone during his teenage years.

“David [Rawle] and Ian [O’Reilly] will be teenagers [when it starts filming], how fabulous would that be? Pimply teenagers going through it all, it’s cool so it’d be great,” she added.
