Aidan Turner to bag 'Benedict Cumberbatch size contract' for another series of Poldark

Actor Aidan Turner looks set to follow in the footsteps of Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch – and land a major deal with BBC.

The Dublin hunk stars as Poldark in the self-titled BBC series, and producers already want him to sign up for three more seasons.

According to the Sunday Mirror, BBC executives believe “Poldark has the potential to become their own long-running answer to ITV’s Downton Abbey – and the key to its success is ensuring Dubliner Turner stays on board.”

Money-maker: Poldark is already a huge hit

A TV insider added: “Aidan has become a huge hit with viewers. The role of Ross Poldark has put him in the shop window and movie makers from Hollywood will
be beating down his door.

“Without Aidan there is no Poldark. He can name his price. There is a real feeling it could turn into a long- running series.”

Aidan is said to be following in the footsteps of Benedict Cumberbatch, who is paid a large “retainer” fee to agree to continue making Sherlock.

Dublin actor Aidan is said to have earned €345,500 for the first series, but a new contract could more than double his fee.
