These are the most listened to shows on Irish radio

Ian Dempsey, Ryan Tubridy and Ray D’Arcy have all seen a massive increase in listeners this year with Claire Byrne, Miriam O’Callaghan and Marian Funucane all proving the popularity of women on air.

Today FM star Ian  is now officially the King of Breakfast radio with the latest JNLR figures released, beating Breakfast Republic on 2FM which has now dropped by 20,000 listeners.

However RTE stars Ray D’Arcy and Ryan Tubridy have both seen a huge increase in numbers with Tubs seeing an increase of 35,0000 with 322,000 people now tuning in  and Ray seeing an increase of 34,000 year on year.

And the latest figures have proven that women in RTE are gaining more and more listeners with Claire Byrne’s show up 16,000 year on year, Miriam O’Callaghan up by 15,000 and Marian Funicane up by an amazing 28,000 listeners year on year.

While Today FM are triumphing over breakfast most of their shows have actually gone down in listenership. The Anton Savage Show dropped down from 183,000 down to 175,000 while Dermot & Dave dropped 4,000 listeners to 117,000 and Louise Duffy lost 3,000 listeners now at 91,000.

However The Last Word with Matt Cooper maintained its drive time audience of 132,000, Today FM’s latest recruit Fergal D’Arcy added 2,000 new listeners to his show and Saturday Breakfast with Alison Curtis went up by 8,000 listeners.

Meanwhile Pat Kenny has dropped to 126,00 listeners, showing a loss of 7,000.

Speaking about the latest JNLR figures Ryan Tubridy said he was happy to see his new Radio 1 show has resonated with listeners.

“It’s been a total pleasure broadcasting back on Radio 1,” he said.

Meanwhile Ray D’Arcy said he was delighted to see such huge numbers listening to his show.

“I’m delighted listeners are tuning in in such numbers – an increase of 34,000 in a year- hopefully we’re offering a vibrant alternative to listeners in the afternoon,” he added.
