Shaggy admits he feels at home in Ireland

Reggae legend Shaggy has admitted he feels at home in Ireland.

The 47-year-old Jamaican-American singer visited the Emerald Isle last summer with his wife, who is half-Irish, and family – insisted Irish people remind his of Jamaicans.

“Ireland kind of reminds me of Jamaicans – there are a lot of Irish people in Jamaica,” he said.

“It’s the blend of their easy-going nature, cool mentality and warmth. It’s not a far cry for me to be here – apart from the weather getting a little chilly at times. It’s a good vibe.

“My daughters love coming here and like seeing their cousins. I’ve been asked to come back ever since we made the last trip,” he told RTÉ TEN.

Shaggy will perform a free gig at Toner’s pub on Baggot Street for Orchard Thieves The Bold Hour at 6pm.
