Deirdre O'Kane opens up on possibility of Moone Boy movie

Deirdre O’Kane has opened up on the possibility of a Moone Boy movie and reckons it will happen.

Speaking on RTE Radio One, the Irish actress admitted she reckons the show has finished for good on the small screen but fans still could have a big screen adaptation to look forward to.

“I think Moone Boy the movie is what will happen. I don’t think there’ll be any more telly,” she told host Brendan O’Connor.

“The boys [writers Chris O’Dowd and Nick Vincent Murphy] signed up for a three-book deal and they’ve got two of them out, so I suspect they writing to get the third one out, and when that’s done I think they’ll get down to the screenplay.”

Meanwhile, the Louth native also opened up on returning to Ireland after 10 years in London.

“It really is great. I mean my feet have only just touched the ground but I feel like I’ve never left,” she said.

“It’s very easy to come this way, because obviously I’d had 15-18 years in Dublin before that, and I feel like I know where I’m going . . . I feel very comfortable and at home.”

Hostess: Deirdre will host this year’s IFTA Awards | BRIAN MCEVOY

Deirdre’s next big gig is hosting the IFTA Awards.

“I’m really looking forward to it because I love award shows. I love them from the point of view of the host – as far as I’m concerned it should be a funny event,” she revealed.

“It is, usually a comic at the helm, like Chris Rock at the Oscars or Ellen DeGeneres, or whoever.

“I’m not a Ricky Gervais-type comic. I’m not as harsh as Ricky, but I’m certainly going to give it a lash and make it as funny as I can,” she added.
